How To Enjoy The Holidays After Weight Loss Surgery
Published December 16, 2022
You finally had your bariatric surgery this past year, and here you are about to face the holidays with dinners and parties. Don’t sweat it! You can still enjoy the holidays after weight loss surgery with the following tips.
Stay On Track
Keep the same basic rules you have been following since your surgery. The holidays shouldn’t change anything. Watch your portion sizes, take your time eating, begin with some protein, and you should be able to maintain.
Concentrate On Eating
Well, that sounds dangerous. What we mean is don’t eat and talk, don’t eat and stand around a buffet table, don’t eat and graze. Socialize with your family and friends and then sit down and have your dinner plate. Focus on what you are eating and you will be less distracted, and yes, less apt to overeat.
Don’t Starve Yourself
If you know you have an event in the evening, eat as you always do during the day. Saving up calories is not a good idea as it will make it easier to slip into temptation and make you hungrier when you finally see and smell the goodies.
Avoid Alcohol
When you drink, it makes you hungrier. It’s tempting when you are at a gathering, but reduce your intake by drinking lots of water. Besides dehydrating you, alcohol is nothing but empty calories.
Find Time To Exercise
The holidays can be busy with visiting family members and lots of activities, but don’t cut back on your exercise schedule. It will just be that much harder to resume your regimen after the holidays are over.
Bring A Healthy Side To Share
If you prepare something healthy to take to a gathering, at least you know there will be one guiltless dish to indulge in. Others will probably thank you.
Don’t Forget To Stay Hydrated
The holidays are a time when it’s easy to slide and throw away healthy habits. Be sure you stay hydrated every day and drink lots of water. Don’t neglect your 64 ounces a day.

You have changed your life for a healthier one. Time to enjoy the holidays after bariatric surgery.
