DaVinci Robotic System

Dr. Barba is proud to offer advanced robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Surgical System, a cutting-edge technology that enhances precision and safety for patients undergoing various procedures. This minimally invasive technique allows for smaller incisions, faster recovery times, and improved surgical outcomes.

What is Robotic Surgery with the Da Vinci System?

The Da Vinci Surgical System allows Dr. Barba to perform complex procedures with a high degree of accuracy. Through small incisions, the robot’s arms are controlled by the surgeon, providing enhanced dexterity, 3D visualization, and the ability to perform delicate movements with great precision. The system’s high-definition cameras provide a magnified view of the surgical area, improving the surgeon’s ability to make precise decisions during the procedure.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery:

  • Minimally Invasive: Smaller incisions lead to less trauma to the body, meaning reduced risk of infection and faster healing.
  • Enhanced Precision: The robot’s instruments allow for greater accuracy in performing delicate surgeries, resulting in fewer complications.
  • Less Pain and Scarring: Due to the smaller incisions, you can expect less pain and minimal scarring compared to traditional surgery.
  • Faster Recovery: Robotic surgery allows for a quicker recovery time, meaning you can return to your daily activities sooner.
  • Improved Visualization: The 3D high-definition camera provides a detailed view of the surgical area, allowing for more accurate and confident decision-making.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass surgery is a proven weight-loss procedure that can help you achieve long-term results by changing the way your digestive system works. During the surgery, we create a small pouch at the top of your stomach and connect it directly to a part of your small intestine. This reduces the amount of food you can eat and limits the calories your body absorbs, which leads to weight loss. In addition to helping with weight loss, this procedure can improve or even resolve obesity-related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. Gastric bypass is typically recommended for individuals who are severely overweight and have struggled with other weight loss methods. If you’re considering this option, we’re here to guide you through every step of the process.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Gastric sleeve surgery, or sleeve gastrectomy, is a weight-loss procedure that involves removing a large portion of the stomach, leaving behind a smaller, sleeve-shaped stomach. This limits the amount of food you can eat, helping you feel full with smaller portions.

Benefits of gastric sleeve surgery include:

  • Significant weight loss
  • Improved or resolved obesity-related conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea
  • Lower risk of heart disease and stroke
  • A minimally invasive procedure with a quicker recovery time compared to other weight-loss surgeries

It’s a great option for those who are severely overwe

Hiatal Hernia

A hiatal hernia occurs when a portion of the stomach pushes upward through the diaphragm into the chest cavity. The diaphragm is a muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen, and the opening in the diaphragm (called the hiatus) normally allows the esophagus to pass through. In the case of a hiatal hernia, the stomach bulges through this opening, which can lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, chest pain, and difficulty swallowing. There are two main types: sliding hernias, where the stomach and part of the esophagus move above the diaphragm, and paraesophageal hernias, where part of the stomach pushes through but the esophagus remains in place. Many people with a hiatal hernia experience mild symptoms or none at all, while others may have more severe discomfort. Treatment often involves lifestyle changes, medications to reduce stomach acid, and in some cases, surgery to repair the hernia. For most patients, managing symptoms helps to improve quality of life and prevent complications.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a medical procedure that uses a flexible tube with a light and camera, called an endoscope, to view the inside of a patient’s body. It is commonly used to examine the digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, but can also be used to investigate other areas such as the lungs, joints, or urinary tract. During the procedure, the endoscope is inserted through a natural opening, such as the mouth or rectum, or through a small incision, depending on the area being examined. Endoscopy allows doctors to diagnose conditions like ulcers, tumors, infections, and inflammation. It can also be used for minor surgical procedures, such as removing polyps, taking biopsies, or stopping bleeding. For the patient, endoscopy provides a minimally invasive way to obtain critical diagnostic information, often with quicker recovery times compared to traditional surgery. While the procedure can be uncomfortable, it is generally safe and effective, with local anesthesia or sedation used to minimize discomfort during the process.

Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inner lining of the colon and rectum. It involves the use of a long, flexible tube with a camera at the end, called a colonoscope, which is gently inserted through the rectum. This allows the doctor to check for signs of abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, or early stages of cancer. Colonoscopies are typically recommended for patients over 45 or those with a family history of colorectal issues, as a preventative measure or to investigate symptoms like unexplained pain or changes in bowel habits. The procedure is generally safe and well-tolerated, offering critical insights into your digestive health.

Colon Resection

A colon resection is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the colon is removed. This may be necessary due to various conditions such as cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or severe diverticulitis. During the procedure, the affected section of the colon is excised, and the remaining healthy ends are reconnected. In some cases, a temporary or permanent colostomy may be required if the colon cannot be rejoined immediately. Colon resections are performed to improve symptoms, prevent further complications, and restore normal bowel function. The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and can be approached through traditional open surgery or minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques.
